I go straight home before heading across the street to Central Park. I picked the park for a reason. I haven’t seen Olly in a few weeks, and I don’t want it to be a given that he’s coming over. I know maybe the lines blurred the other night on the phone, but for all I know, the attraction won’t be there for either of us now that we’re in New York. Maybe the appeal was that it was a vacation fling. Maybe seeing him on my home turf will make the luster fade.
Who are you trying to kid?
I’m so desperate to see him that I doubt that will ever happen.
I make my way into my closet first. I pull off my fitted A-line dress and grab a pair of faded skinny jeans, ballet flats, and a white T-shirt. If I know anything about Oliver, he’s not into the pretentious nature of the Upper East Side.
It’s refreshing.
I’m used to men with too much money who only care to show their wealth, so it’s a welcome change to be with someone more humble. Sure, Oliver obviously has the funds to own that cottage, but the wealth I’m used to, well, that’s a whole different story.
I wonder what he will say when he sees my apartment.
If he comes back with you.
The thought of his lips on my skin has my skin prickling with excitement.
Before leaving, I check myself in the mirror one final time and then make my way to the private elevator that leads me out the back entrance.
New York City is still bright, despite the time. This is my favorite season in the city. The sky is a brilliant shade of pink as it ducks behind the buildings. The lush and green park just begs for a long, leisurely day of picnicking out on the lawn. Maybe we should do that tomorrow.
Don’t get ahead of yourself, Addison.
As I cross the street, I see him. He’s standing beside the streetlight on the corner, just as I instructed. He’s furiously typing on his phone, and my eyebrows pinch in.
Who is he texting?
He looks up from his phone, places it in his pocket, and spots me. He doesn’t wave, but I wouldn’t expect that of him. Instead, his lips tip up into a smirk, and my own lips part when I see his.
My feet move faster, desperate to be with him again, and finally, after quick steps, I’m standing before him. He’s even better looking than I remember. His presence seems so large and vibrant even against the Manhattan backdrop.
“Hi,” I say, and he raises his arms and pulls me to him.
“Hello, Addison.” Once he engulfs me in his tight embrace, I relax into him. He leans down and places a kiss on my lips. “I missed this,” he says against my mouth.
“Me too.”
He moves his mouth against mine, and there, on the sidewalk of Fifth Avenue, he kisses me like he hasn’t seen me in years instead of it only being a matter of weeks.
